The Ocean Bay Park Volunteer Fire Department was created in September 1949 at the instigation of Alfred Manzo. Funds were raised in the community to start the Department and build premises. A request for a charter was made to the State of New York and was received on July 10, 1950. A donation of land was made by Ocean Shore Realty Co. for the construction of a Fire House which was completed in the fall of 1950. Work on this construction was donated by the volunteer fireman of the Department which consisted of 26 members.
In 1953 the Department acquired an additional 25 ft. of land for the construction of a meeting room and recreational facility. This was paid for by voluntary contributions.
